Ishikawa Noto Peninsula Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund

On 1 January 2024, an earthquake of magnitude 7.6 was observed in Noto, Ishikawa Prefecture. Immediately after the earthquake, Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) started gathering information in cooperation with local organizations, government agencies, and support groups. On 2 January, PBV dispatched the staff to the Noto Peninsula, where the devastating damage had been reported, and is currently conducting damage and needs assessment in the region. Emergency Relief Fund for the Noto Peninsula Earthquake May 2023

On May 5, 2023, at around 14:42, there was an earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture with a strong tremor of intensity 6 upper on the Japanese seismic scale. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the epicenter was located in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture, with an estimated depth of 10 km and a magnitude of 6.3. Turkiye-Syria Earthquakes: PBV delivered emergency supplies in Hatay, Turkiye

Responding to the earthquakes that occurred on 6th February in southwestern Turkiye, Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) dispatched staff members to the affected areas for damage assessment and emergency relief activity in late February. During the visit, the team delivered emergency relief supplies to the affected communities in Hatay province, one of the worst affected areas. With the support of Turkiye-based members of ASAR Humanity, we distributed more than 400 hot meals, 50 hygiene kits, 30 solar lanterns, and 13 sleeping bags. Update on West Java Earthquake Relief: Activities in Partnership with ASAR Humanity

March 21, 2023 marks four months since the Western Java earthquake in Indonesia. The disaster took the lives of 602 people and damaged 56,548 houses resulting in the displacement of more than 114,000 residents. Immediately after the earthquake, Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) launched an emergency relief fund and has supported our local partner, ASAR Humanity since. Twelve Years since the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami: the baton of support continues to be passed on

March 11, 2023, marks 12 years since the triple disaster which hit Japan in 2011. The total number of deaths reached 22,212, including those who died as a direct result of the disaster, those whose whereabouts are still unknown, and other “disaster-related deaths,” such as those who passed away while living in evacuation shelters. We pray for the souls of the victims and offer our heartfelt condolences to their families. March 11, 2011. Earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria 2023: PBV Emergency Relief Fund Launched

As widely reported in Japan and elsewhere, communities in Turkiye (formerly known as Turkey)  and Syria experienced very strong earthquakes on February 6. Extensive damage has been reported in both countries. More than a hundred aftershocks have been recorded as of February 7. Rescue efforts are still underway in snowy conditions. Project Update: 2022 Earthquake in Western Java, Indonesia

Upon the occurrence of the magnitude 5.6 earthquake in western Java, Indonesia on 21 November, Peace Boat Disaster Relief launched an emergency fund to support the humanitarian efforts by ASAR Humanity in Indonesia. According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Indonesia, 7,700 people were injured due to falling structures and debris while 73,000 people were displaced, and about 62,000 housing units were partially or entirely damaged. Residents in Cianjur, where the damage was most extensive, have experienced a shortage of shelters, food, safe drinking water, and access to medical services. Emergency Relief Fund: 2022 Earthquake in Western Java, Indonesia

On 21 November 2022, at around 1:20 pm local time, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale occurred near Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia. As of the morning on 22 November, 162 people have been confirmed dead and approximately 700 injured. In addition, more than 2,700 houses and buildings, including schools, have been damaged. Visiting the Honjo Life Safety Learning Center

Have you ever experienced an earthquake, flood, or fire? According to JMA (the Meteorological Agency of Japan), approximately 2000 earthquakes occur in Japan every year, though many of them are benign shakes. This week, earthquakes have been occurring more frequently with more intensity. While natural disasters are here to stay, we can prepare for them together.
