Emergency Relief Fund for the Noto Peninsula Earthquake May 2023

On May 5, 2023, at around 14:42, there was an earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture with a strong tremor of intensity 6 upper on the Japanese seismic scale. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the epicenter was located in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture, with an estimated depth of 10 km and a magnitude of 6.3. Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) expresses our deepest sympathies to all those affected by this earthquake.

The PBV dispatched a team to the affected areas on May 6th, and is currently working on damage and needs assessment in cooperation with the local authorities, NGOs and other support organization. We seek your generous cooperation to support our responses. More information and activity updates will be posted on the PBV website and Facebook page.

Risks of strong aftershocks and landslides still remain in the affected areas. Please stay safe if you are in the region.
