Monitoring Visit to Our Relief Efforts in North Sumatra, Indonesia

From February 8 to 12, PBV staff visited Indonesia to observe our ongoing relief operations, distribute hot meals and relief supplies, and monitor the progress of our assistance efforts. Our relief activities in Indonesia are carried out in close coordination with our local partner, ASAR Humanity, a trusted NGO with a strong track record of collaboration. We have worked together in response to past disasters in Indonesia. Emergency Relief in Sumatra: Updates and Expansion

Since November 2025, a wave of record-breaking floods has devastated Southeast Asia. Indonesia’s Sumatra island has been among the hardest hit by catastrophic floods and landslides. As of January 23, 2026, the disaster in Sumatra has claimed approximately 1,200 lives, with 143 people still missing. Emergency Response to Floods and Landslides in Indonesia

Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) is currently working in partnership with the Indonesian NGO ASAR Humanity Foundation to respond to severe floods and landslides that struck Indonesia in late November 2025. The disaster was triggered by intense rainfall associated with Cyclone Senyar, which caused rivers to overflow, flash floods, and widespread landslides across Sumatra Island, particularly in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. Update on West Java Earthquake Relief: Activities in Partnership with ASAR Humanity

March 21, 2023 marks four months since the Western Java earthquake in Indonesia. The disaster took the lives of 602 people and damaged 56,548 houses resulting in the displacement of more than 114,000 residents. Immediately after the earthquake, Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) launched an emergency relief fund and has supported our local partner, ASAR Humanity since. Project Update: 2022 Earthquake in Western Java, Indonesia

Upon the occurrence of the magnitude 5.6 earthquake in western Java, Indonesia on 21 November, Peace Boat Disaster Relief launched an emergency fund to support the humanitarian efforts by ASAR Humanity in Indonesia. According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Indonesia, 7,700 people were injured due to falling structures and debris while 73,000 people were displaced, and about 62,000 housing units were partially or entirely damaged. Emergency Relief Fund: 2022 Earthquake in Western Java, Indonesia

On 21 November 2022, at around 1:20 pm local time, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale occurred near Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia. As of the morning on 22 November, 162 people have been confirmed dead and approximately 700 injured. In addition, more than 2,700 houses and buildings, including schools, have been damaged. Emergency Response: 2018 Slawesi Earthquake and Tsunami

On 28th September, 2018 (Friday), an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 struck island of Slawesi, Indonesia. According to an announcement by the Indonesian Government, the earthquake and tsunami caused severe destruction, and over 1,500 people are confirmed to have lost their lives (as of 5th October).
