Support for Communities Affected by 2019 Typhoons Continues in Chiba

The longer it takes after the disaster, the more complex and challenging cases are found in terms of support. Communities in the southern part of Chiba Prefecture, Japan were hit hard by typhoons Faxai and Hagibis in 2019. The PBV team has been working closely with the local support groups and public sectors to continue the relief efforts. The house we visited today with the local Social Welfare Council members was assessed as half destroyed. Despite the emergency repair system being applied and a sum of JPY 595,000 being granted, the amount was not sufficient enough to cover all of the repair costs. What’s your plan for this year’s Giving Tuesday? The year 2020 has been an unusual one; many of us have spent most of the time at home globally. Many had to give up excitement and entertainment like meeting with loved ones, social gathering, international travels and seasonal festivals to keep social distancing. It’s Giving Tuesday! 

This year, once again, many parts of Japan have experienced disasters, especially flooding and storms, resulting in large-scale destruction. This year, the Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) has carried out emergency relief projects across Japan, including Saga Prefecture (heavy rains in July), Chiba Prefecture (Typhoons 15 and 19) and Fukushima Prefecture (Typhoon 19 and heavy rains caused by Typhoon 21), and we are also engaged in a relief project in Mozambique to support those affected by Cyclone Idai.
