Typhoon Dujuan Leaves Devastating Floods Across the Kanto Region

From September 19–22, Typhoon Dujuan approached eastern Japan, causing extensive damage across Kanagawa and Chiba Prefectures due to severe flooding and landslides. As of September 25, the disaster has tragically claimed 10 lives, and 4 people remain missing. In Chiba Prefecture, which neighbors Tokyo, electricity and water services have yet to be restored in the affected communities. Nearly 1,000 homes have been impacted by the typhoon, with many inundated by floodwaters from the Takasaki River and Lake Inba. Beyond private residences, the floods also caused devastating damage to agriculture—especially rice crops that were only a few weeks away from harvest—and other local industries, resulting in enormous financial losses. One week after the disaster, 13 people had been confirmed dead and one person remained missing. Nearly 2,700 homes were flooded, while around 2,700 vehicles were damaged or left stranded by the flooding.  On August 27, heavy rain struck Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures, triggering flooding and landslides. In Alue Lipah Timu Hamlet, Pante Bidari District, East Aceh, water sources used by the local community and Bustanur Rahmani Boarding School were contaminated with mud and flood debris, making them unsafe for everyday use. The boarding school, known locally as Dayah Bustanur Rahmani, serves both as a place of learning […]

Flores Island Earthquake Response Update: Emergency Water Relief Launched

In Flores Island, Indonesia, it has rained for only two days over the past month, and even then, it was just a light drizzle. In a region already prone to water shortages, the magnitude 7.7 earthquake caused shared community water tanks and the tent villages where evacuees have gathered to run dry almost immediately. During interviews conducted over the past two days in Nagekeo Regency, numerous requests for water were raised by both evacuees and local government officials. In response to this situation, on August 24—ten days after the disaster struck—PBV and its local partner NGO, ASAR Humanity, arranged emergency water deliveries. Two water tankers, each carrying 5,000 liters of […]
