Typhoon Rai (Odette): Emergency Relief Fund Launched

On 16-17 December 2021, a powerful typhoon Rai (local name: Odette) made landfall in the islands of central Philippines, causing extensive damage. As of 22 December, 2.4 million people and 604,322 households have been affected and 375 lives have been lost. The full extent of the damage, particularly on the smaller islands, is still being assessed and further reports are expected once communications are restored. December 2021 U.S. Tornado Damage: Emergency Relief Fund Launched

On December 10th and 11th, 2021, at least 30 tornado outbreaks were recorded in nine states in the Midwest and Southeast in the United States, including Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee. This tornado damage was the worst occurring in December in U.S. history, and nearly 100 people lost their lives, mainly in Kentucky. [Project Update] Mauritius Oil Spill Accident: Community Support Project in Full Swing (Part 2)

<Read the Part One> In August 2020, a bulk vessel owned and operated by a Japanese company went aground off Mauritius, causing an environmental crisis to the coastal communities. Since the accident, Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) has been working with local NGOs in Mauritius to support their initiatives. The PBV is currently supporting the Environmental Protection and Conservation Organization (EPCO), a Mauritius-based NGO, for their efforts to support the people in coastal villages. In August 2020, a bulk vessel owned and operated by a Japanese company went aground off Mauritius, causing an environmental crisis to the coastal communities. Immediately after the accident, Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) contacted local NGOs in Mauritius to support their initiatives to restore the environment and help the affected communities. A Mauritius-based NGO, Environmental Protection and Conservation Organization (EPCO), partnered with PBV, to implement a year-long project to support the 17 villages along the coast. Visiting the Honjo Life Safety Learning Center

Have you ever experienced an earthquake, flood, or fire? According to JMA (the Meteorological Agency of Japan), approximately 2000 earthquakes occur in Japan every year, though many of them are benign shakes. This week, earthquakes have been occurring more frequently with more intensity. While natural disasters are here to stay, we can prepare for them together.
