PBV’s Relief Efforts in Noto Continue: Rebuilding Community Network

Six months have passed since the earthquake, but there are still areas in Suzu City where it is difficult to quickly restore the water supply, and people are forced to live under conditions where the tap water is not available. PBV has established a relief station in the Otani area, which is the furthest from the city center and where the only supermarket in the area was damaged, making shopping difficult. With 70% of the residents having moved away from this place and the original community unable to maintain itself, some say that gathering here once a week to chat is the only thing they look forward to. At this […]

PBV’s Relief Efforts in Noto Continue: FooBour project

PBV is implementing “FooBour” project by using food truck in Suzu. The project name “FooBour” is a coined word combining “Food” and “Harbor”. Currently, FooBour is based in the tsunami-affected area in Suzu and provides food assistance to disaster victims. Local residents can access this truck at any time to obtain food, water, and other daily necessities. The truck is unmanned, and household items such as water, retort pouch food, and clothing are always stored, replenished or items replaced as needed. There is also a refrigerator, which contains yogurt and other food items. The service allows registered residents to receive a card key so that they can use to enter […]

PBV’s Relief Efforts in Noto Continue: Public Bath Project

Wajima’s morning market, once a tourist attraction, was transformed by the fire and still looks painful even five months later.   As of May 28, 112 people were dead and 3 were missing in Wajima, and more than 14,000 houses were either completely or partially destroyed, left on the ground waiting to be demolished or cleared. Temporary housing has been built and evacuees have begun living in new places, but many of these residents do not know what to do with the houses and property left behind. Some evacuees commute to their former residences to clear the area and look for their belongings. Since the current temporary housing is not […]

2023 Turkey–Syria Earthquakes: Psycho-social Support Program

On February 6th, 2023, Turkey and Syria were struck by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake. PBV is continuing its relief activities through the local partner, Nirengi Association. In the suburbs of Antakya, Hatay Province in southern Turkey, where the earthquake caused particularly severe damage, kindergartens and nursery schools had not been adequately established even before the earthquake struck. Therefore, as part of its support activities, PBV set up several container houses called “Nirengi Point” in this area as a safe place for children to play and learn. Currently, more than 100 children attend this […]

The event was hosted in Romania by Notorious Learning Projects, our local partner who coordinates the support centre for displaced persons “Dobra Hata” in the city of Cluj-Napoca. There, the centre provides Romanian language classes and distributes daily necessities. Connecting online, the young people were able to learn about each other’s daily lives and culture, writing each other’s names in Japanese and […]
