Monitoring Visit to Our Relief Efforts in North Sumatra, Indonesia

From February 8 to 12, PBV staff visited Indonesia to observe our ongoing relief operations, distribute hot meals and relief supplies, and monitor the progress of our assistance efforts.

Our relief activities in Indonesia are carried out in close coordination with our local partner, ASAR Humanity, a trusted NGO with a strong track record of collaboration. We have worked together in response to past disasters in Indonesia.

In Sipirok, South Tapanuli, North Sumatra Province, hot meals were provided in a community where more than 100 households have been taking shelter in tents and warehouses.

Approximately 1,000 meals per day—covering breakfast, lunch, and dinner—were prepared and distributed to those affected by the disaster. The cooking is carried out on a rotating basis by ASAR volunteers and local residents.

In Batang Toru, South Tapanuli, food packages were distributed to affected households. Each household received a set of food supplies sufficient for approximately three weeks, including 20 kilograms of rice, canned goods, milk, cooking oil, and basic seasonings.

The team also visited temporary shelters currently under construction, as well as communities in this area that are at continued risk of landslides. Although the government has issued evacuation orders due to the ongoing threat of further landslides, approximately 30 households remain in the area.

We distributed hygiene kits containing soap, toothpaste, sanitary products, and other essential items to 200 households in two communities in Batang Toru, and provided daily necessities kits—including blankets, mosquito nets, and bedding—to 150 households.

As our visit took place in mid-February, just before Ramadan, efforts were underway to build temporary housing and support recovery, so that affected families could spend the holy month in safety and with peace of mind.

We will continue providing meals and distributing relief supplies, including hygiene items.
