Call for Donations: Emergency Fund for Disaster Relief Programs amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic

Summer in Japan is the season when rain and storm-related disasters frequently occur across the country, including flooding, land slides and strong winds. Your help is needed to continue ongoing efforts and aid Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) in delivering new programs. COVID-19 adds a new threat to this already dangerous season as affected areas may be at greater risk of contracting the disease. During this difficult time, PBV continues the ongoing relief activities and prepares for the future disasters while implementing preventive measures against contagions.

PBV has launched an emergency fund to support disaster response while continuing ongoing projects in communities affected by typhoons last year. We are indeed concerned that the impact of natural disasters would be detrimental to disaster-struck communities due to challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your donations to the fund will support PBV in implementing the following initiatives:

  1. Support to communities affected by typhoons Faxai and Hagibis with protection against COVID-19

PBV has been working on relief projects in Iwaki, Fukushima and southern Chiba region, affected by typhoons Faxai and Hagibis last year. We are working closely with the local communities and support them rebuild their communities and prepare for disasters in future. Click here and find out how PBV is supporting the communities.

  1. Building a Disaster Relief fund for immediate response

The current pandemic is likely to disrupt humanitarian aid for this season’s disasters. In order to avoid this, PBV has organized a special quick response team. The team has been trained not only for the emergency assistance but also for contagion prevention measures. In case we receive assistance requests from local authorities or other organizations during natural disasters, we plan to implement relief activities in evacuation centers and disaster relief volunteer centers. All activities will be implemented to meet the local needs and situations with reference to the guidelines published by the Japan Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (JVOAD).

Every contribution counts! We offer various donation methods and accept donations from overseas as well as from Japan. Thank you for considering joining our cause.
