Turkiye-Syria Earthquakes: PBV delivered emergency supplies in Hatay, Turkiye
Responding to the earthquakes that occurred on 6th February in southwestern Turkiye, Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) dispatched staff members to the affected areas for damage assessment and emergency relief activity in late February.
During the visit, the team delivered emergency relief supplies to the affected communities in Hatay province, one of the worst affected areas. With the support of Turkiye-based members of ASAR Humanity, we distributed more than 400 hot meals, 50 hygiene kits, 30 solar lanterns, and 13 sleeping bags. The items were handed to the residents staying in tents and temporary housing with limited access to lifelines. The distribution was made possible with generous contributions from people in Japan, including YAMAP Inc., a Japanese company that donated the lanterns and sleeping bags.
Since the earthquake in early February, PBV’s sister organization, NGO Peace Boat has conducted street fund-raising campaigns across Japan with hundreds of people contributing to the campaign while Peace Boat US also made fund-raising efforts to support the PBV’s relief program in Turkiye. We are very thankful to the Peace Boat group and the supporters for their assistance.
The affected regions recently experienced heavy rain and flooding that resulted in casualties and damage to infrastructure in evacuation camps. PBV plans to continue our mid to long-term relief programs in partnership with a local NGO based in Turkiye to fulfill the changing needs. We seek your continued support for the PBV’s Turkiye-Syria Earthquake Relief Fund. We offer multiple donation methods, including credit card payment and the corporate giving platform, Benevity.
