Noto Devastated Again: Heavy Rains Hamper Earthquake Recovery
Just nine and a half months after the devastating Noto earthquake, the city of Suzu in Ishikawa Prefecture has been hit by another disaster: torrential rains. The downpours caused widespread flooding and landslides, compounding the challenges faced by the community still reeling from the January quake.
Eight rivers burst their banks, inundating homes and businesses, including temporary housing erected for those displaced by the earthquake. Landslides have isolated four areas, cutting off access and leaving 1,700 households without running water.
“Why is it that only Noto is suffering like this?” lamented one resident, echoing the despair felt by many in the community.
Nevertheless, local authorities, the Social Welfare Council, and NGOs are working tirelessly to deliver aid. Everyone is working tirelessly with a sense of purpose and responsibility. It’s inspiring and gives us the strength to carry on.
While the road to recovery has become even longer and arduous, PBV remain committed to supporting Suzu and its resilient residents. As the community confronts the aftermath of this latest disaster, the outpouring of support offers a beacon of hope amidst the devastation.
