Earthquakes in Taiwan: PBV Emergency Relief Fund Launched
On April 3, 2024, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien City in Taiwan, shaking a wide area with a strong tremor of magnitude 6 or higher. According to Taiwanese authorities, more than nine people were killed and more than 1,000 injured (as of April 3, 2024). Rescue efforts are continuing as large-scale damage has occurred, including collapsed buildings, landslides, and falling rocks. There are fears that the damage may further expand in the future.
Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) has begun surveying the damage through its international network and is preparing for relief activities.
PBV plans to implement relief activities based on our experience and expertise from past disaster responses. PBV will carry out the necessary support activities to help affected people rebuild their lives, including the provision of supplies, food assistance, first-aid and maintenance of damaged houses, support for shelter operation, coordination of relief activities, and support for the operation of disaster relief volunteer centers.
Taiwanese people have delivered a great deal of support to the disaster-stricken areas in Japan in the past, including the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture. In response to the large-scale earthquake damage in Taiwan, we will work with local partner organizations to confirm the damage situation, support system, and assistance needed, and implement relief activities tailored to local needs.
Your donations will be carefully used for emergency relief activities, livelihood reconstruction, and community rebuilding according to the needs of the affected areas. Please note that we are still in the process of assessing the full extent of the damage in the affected areas and may change our activities depending on the situation.
We ask for your warm support so that the people in the affected areas can return to safe lives and smiles as soon as possible.
More updates will be shared on the PBV Facebook, LinkedIn, and websites.
Donate now through credit card payments, money transfer, Benevity, or Give 2 Asia internet donations.
We seek your generous cooperation to help those in the affected communities.
