Announcement: Change of Organizational Name
We are pleased to announce that we are renaming our organization from “Peace Boat Disaster Relief Volunteer Center” to “Peace Boat Disaster Relief,” starting on October 1st, 2019.
New name (EN): Peace Boat Disaster Relief
New name (JP): ピースボート災害支援センター
Abbreviation: PBV
Although our official name is changed, kindly continue calling us PBV, the name you are already familiar with. We are also introducing our new logo as shown left.
Peace Boat Disaster Relief Volunteer Center was founded at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 to succeed the relief efforts previously implemented by Peace Boat, an international NGO. To date, we have engaged in disaster relief activities in 28 countries overseas and 45 regions in Japan to respond to disasters repeatedly occurring almost every year. These support activities have been made possible thanks to the locals who have accepted us in the affected areas, the people who have offered tangible and intangible support to us, and the 90,000 volunteers (person-days) who have worked with us in disaster-affected areas. We extend our sincere gratitude to all of you.
Every year when we visit areas affected by natural disasters, we receive requests for diverse relief activities and our required level of expertise has grown high. We will no longer limit ourselves to performing voluntary activities but shall extend our relief efforts to activities requiring our expertise. We will continue working with volunteers who spontaneously take part in support activities and who value our mission, “It takes people to help people,” as before.
In our new logo and abbreviated name, we will continue to go by PBV, to convey our thoughts that we are always “with volunteers.”
We seek your continued support and cooperation as always. Thank you very much!
Takashi Yamamoto
President,
Peace Boat Disaster Relief
