PBV Held Disaster Preparedness Webinars for Foreign Residents in Japan
On November 29–30, Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) conducted a series of online disaster preparedness webinars designed specifically for foreign residents living in Japan. The four sessions covered essential topics related to earthquakes, floods, typhoons, and general preparedness for life in a disaster-prone country.
Throughout the series, participants learned practical steps they can take to stay safe—such as how disasters may affect urban areas like Tokyo, what items to prepare in advance, how to secure the home environment, how to interpret hazard maps, and when and where to evacuate during severe weather. The sessions also introduced key actions to take during an earthquake and ways to access reliable information and alerts.
Each webinar included a Q&A segment, during which participants asked many thoughtful questions about preparing for emergencies and responding safely when a disaster occurs. Their engagement highlighted the strong need and interest among international residents for accessible, English-language disaster preparedness information.
PBV remains committed to supporting diverse communities in Japan by providing practical, easy-to-understand disaster preparedness education. We hope this webinar series will serve as a helpful resource for those seeking to strengthen their readiness.
As part of PBV’s Disaster Preparedness Planning Program 2025, we aim to expand both the audience and the hosts of upcoming disaster preparedness workshops. We are currently developing new in-person workshop materials and are looking for community groups, organizations, and networks interested in co-organizing events next year.
