Progress of the Re-Gait Rehabilitation Project in Ukraine
The rehabilitation project led by Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) in collaboration with UNBROKEN Rehabilitation Centre in Lviv and with the supervision of Prof. Louis Yuge of Hiroshima University, using the innovative Re-Gait device, continues to bring positive results in Ukraine. Since the device was introduced, it has become an important tool in helping patients regain mobility and improve their quality of life after leg injuries.
We stay in regular contact with physical therapist Dr. Liubov Koloshynska, who visited Japan for hands-on training with the Re-Gait system. Each month, we learn about the progress of patients and the benefits the device provides in everyday rehabilitation.
Over the past month:
- 7 patients are currently undergoing rehabilitation with Re-Gait,
- 11 patients have successfully completed their program.
Therapists report that the device is highly effective, easy to use, and reduces knee pain, while patients have shared encouraging feedback: “I almost stopped feeling knee pain,” “The device looks very interesting,” and “I feel my condition improving with every session.”
Despite the ongoing conflict, the rehabilitation center remains fully operational, providing essential care to those in need. Recent attacks on cities, including Lviv, where on September 3rd approximately 15 drones targeted the city, and the August 21st attack, which caused one death, three injuries, and damage to 30 houses, demonstrate the continued danger. Across the country, attacks continue without pause: in Kyiv, the night of August 28th saw 23 confirmed deaths, including four children, and widespread destruction of homes, schools, and hospitals. Kharkiv also experienced prolonged assaults with multiple weapon types on July 26th. In this challenging environment, the dedication of the rehabilitation center ensures that patients continue to receive critical support and rehabilitation services.
We are deeply thankful to our donors for making this project possible. Your support allows innovative rehabilitation technologies to reach those who need them most and provides hope for ongoing recovery.
