PBV Representative Joins Global Effort to Reduce Risk

PBV member attends the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva, Switzerland

United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), together with the government of Switzerland, is now hosting the 8th Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025). This international conference brings together stakeholders working around the globe to discuss important topics related to disasters, challenges, good practices, innovative ideas, and more.

The Global Platform is the global forum where participants take stock of progress, share new knowledge, exchange best practices, and discuss the latest developments and trends in reducing disaster risk. The UN General Assembly recognizes the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) as a critical mechanism to review progress on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 is a global, voluntary, and non-binding agreement adopted by UN member states to guide efforts in significantly reducing disaster risk and losses worldwide. The framework sets out seven global targets and four priorities for action, focusing on understanding disaster risk, strengthening disaster risk governance, investing in DRR for resilience, and enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response and “Build Back Better” in recovery.

PBV staff Ikuno Suzuki is now in Geneva to attend this important conference to catch up with the latest discussion on DRR and to expand the network around the globe. During the sessions held on two preparation days, UN agencies, NGOs, academics, and government officials discussed and shared their experiences and expertise on DRR in the world. Also, the exhibition booths have showcased innovative projects implemented by private and public sectors based in different countries.

The official program starts today (June 4th), with more insightful presentations and pitches. Some of the programs will be live-streamed on the UNDRR’s YouTube channel. Join online and follow the latest discussion on the DRR: https://globalplatform.undrr.org/
