PBV Embarks on a New Journey as a Public Interest Incorporated Association

Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) is set to transition from a General Incorporated Association to a Public Interest Incorporated Association as of April 1, 2025.

This transition marks a significant step forward in PBV’s mission to provide professional disaster relief services. We appreciate continued support as we enter this new phase as a public interest corporation.

With the recognition as a “Public Interest Incorporated Association,” Japan-based donors to the organization can now enjoy tax-related benefits, including donation tax deductions.

Individual Donors in Japan:

By filing a tax return, individuals can receive deductions on income tax, resident tax (depending on their location), and inheritance tax. The required “Donation Receipt Certificate” will be issued around late January of the year following when the donation. Residents of Tokyo may be eligible for deductions from their metropolitan resident tax. The handling of resident tax varies by prefecture, city, ward, town and village, so please consult your local government for details. If donations are made from inherited assets, submitting a tax return within the inheritance tax deadline will exempt the donated assets from being subject to inheritance tax. Necessary documents for such filings can be provided upon request.

Corporate Donors in Japan:

Corporate donors can record donations as special deductible expenses, separate from general donations, up to the special deductible limit. The “Donation Receipt Certificate” can be issued in line with the end of the corporate fiscal year. Please feel free to contact us for assistance. For detailed information on tax incentives (donation tax deduction), please refer to the website of your local tax office or the National Tax Agency.

We thank you for your ongoing support for PBV, now and in the future.
