Commemorating a SFDRR: Building Resilience for 2030

Today marks the 10th anniversary of The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

According to the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the framework outlines seven clear targets and four priorities for action to prevent new and reduce existing disaster risks: (i) Understanding disaster risk; (ii) Strengthening disaster risk governance to manage disaster risk; (iii) Investing in disaster reduction for resilience; and (iv) Enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response, and to “Build Back Better” in recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction.

The Framework was adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan, on March 18, 2015. Governments, Civil Society Organizations, and International Organizations around the world are working together to achieve these targets by 2030.

To commemorate this important initiative and raise awareness about the framework’s principles, we are sharing “The Citizen’s Guide to the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030,” published by the Japan CSO Coalition for Disaster Risk Reduction (JCC-DRR). Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) is a proud steering committee member of the JCC-DRR, collaborating with other CSOs in Japan to build a more resilient society worldwide, aligning with the crucial goals of the Sendai Framework.
