Disaster Relief Volunteer Leader training first term finished!
The first term of the Disaster Relief Volunteer Leader training took place in Ishinomaki from November 5-11, 2011.
- Nov 4 (Fri) Night: Departure from Tokyo
- Nov 5 (Sat) [Day 1] Early Morning: Arrival to Ishinomaki

・Learning (about natural disasters, disaster relief, disaster volunteers etc.) - Nov 6 (Sun) [Day 2]
Venue: Ishinomaki Senshu University
・On site safety evaluation, First aid
・Learning (about safety control, kitchen and cooking details, deliveries etc.) - Nov 7 (Mon) [Day 3]
Venue: Numazu Camping grounds (tent accomodations)
・Field training (tent setting up etc.)
・Meal preparation training (kitchen set-up, food storage, cooking, loading, dissembling etc.)
・Delivery (Relocate to Kasuka Fashion for meal preparation) - Nov 8 (Tue) [Day 4]

・Case study for support situations – judgement and decision making. - Nov 12 (Sat) Morning Departure from Ishinomaki, Arrive in Tokyo
Kondo Shinya (Advanced product development researcher, Tokyo University) giving a lecture on disaster relief.
Safety/rescue expert giving training in first aid procedures.
Day 3, Numazu camping grounds. Setting up tents under the rain as a part of training.
Debriefing of the day. Even after a disaster or after a crisis, daily reports and relief meetings take place.
Preparing the food and cooking materials for meals. Creating a checklist for everything and storing them are also a part of the job.
Day 6: Removing dirt from ditches. Practical training in communication between volunteers and leadership (those in orange are the trainees).
Day 7 (Nov 11): Case studies at Kasuka Fashion. Exchanging opinions on possible disaster scenarios.

Taking in the feedback from the first term training, the 2nd program will be improved and begin on November 19, 2011.
An event will be held in December for trainees to report back about their experiences – details will be posted here in the future.
