Support for Typhoon-Affected Communities Completed in Catanduanes, the Philippines
PBV has been providing support to people affected by Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-Wong) on Catanduanes Island, the Philippines. The super typhoon swept across the Philippines and Taiwan in early November 2025.
Together with its local partner organization, PDRRN (People’s Disaster Risk Reduction Network), PBV implemented relief activities in the northern part of Catanduanes Island from February to July 2026. The project was supported by grants from the Japan Platform and PBV’s emergency relief fund.
The support included the repair and reconstruction of damaged houses, the distribution of essential living and hygiene supplies to 209 households, and improvements to WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) facilities, including water supply and toilets.
As part of the housing support, PBV assisted 100 households with house repairs and provided shelter structures for 38 households to help improve their living conditions.
In the areas where shelters were installed, PBV also supported the improvement of the post-disaster living environment by establishing communal toilets, water points, laundry areas, drainage facilities, and solar lights.
Rather than simply delivering supplies, PBV aimed to help affected people regain safe and secure homes and a hygienic living environment. For the 38 households receiving shelter support, an orientation was also conducted on the “10 Principles of House Construction” and the mechanisms for material and labor assistance.
Despite various challenges, including weather conditions, transportation difficulties, and delays in procuring supplies, the support activities were carried out with the cooperation of local partner organizations and community members.
PBV’s on-the-ground support activities have now come to an end. We sincerely hope that the support provided through this project will contribute to the continued recovery and rebuilding of the lives of those affected.
