All for Ukraine Emergency Relief Fund Launched
On February 24, 2022, the Russian military invasion of Ukraine began, and military attacks by missiles and other weapons have been carried out in several cities in Ukraine. Many civilians, including children, have been killed. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), at least 930,000 citizens have fled to neighboring countries including Poland, Hungary, and Romania in search of safety, and more than 100,000 people have been internally displaced in Ukraine (as of March 2, 2022). The people who are fleeing the war and being deprived of their daily lives are in great need of support.
Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV), together with the NGO Peace Boat, has launched an emergency relief fund to support humanitarian efforts in the neighboring countries through a local NGO. We are starting a fund-raising campaign to support a Romania-based NGO, the Peace Action, Training and Research Institute of Romania (PATRIR).

PATRIR is a non-profit organization based in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. PATRIR has been working on peacebuilding and peace education since its foundation in 2001. PATRIR is an active member of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC), and NGO Peace Boat serves as the Regional Secretariat for GPPAC in Northeast Asia. Upon the outbreak of the current crisis, PATRIR members have been working selflessly to support Ukrainian civilians and others impacted by the war. Currently, they focus on immediate humanitarian support to refugees arriving in Romania, support to civilian populations in Ukraine affected by the war, and preparation for a large influx of refugees to cities in Romania. The situations remain fluid and the scope of the activities may change due to the local needs.

NGO Peace Boat has a long history of friendship and collaboration with partners in Ukraine, including through visits to the port city of Odessa, partnership with crew members and shipping operators from Ukraine, and hosting of dialogue events for local peacebuilders and mediators onboard our ship.
