FOOBOUR Kitchen Truck Showcased at OMATSURI in Tokyo

On October 3, PBV exhibited its FOOBOUR, a phase-free disaster response kitchen truck, at the OMATSURI ~ Takadanobaba International Exchange Festival in Tokyo.

FOOBOUR is a food truck project that supports single-parent families in everyday life. When disasters strike, the trucks are deployed to affected areas to provide food assistance to local residents.

FOOBOUR has supported communities in various parts of Japan, including Omachi Town in Saga Prefecture, Wajima City in Ishikawa Prefecture, and Uwajima City in Ehime Prefecture. Operations will soon begin in Ina City, Nagano Prefecture. The truck is also currently being used to provide daily hot meals in areas affected by the Kumamoto earthquake and Chiba floods.

Although FOOBOUR has been active in disaster-affected communities across Japan, this was the first time the truck was showcased in Tokyo, where the PBV office is located.

Many visitors came to see FOOBOUR and learn more about how it works. Some had followed the project through social media or supported FOOBOUR as volunteers and donors, while others were seeing the truck for the first time. Visitors were particularly interested in seeing the kitchen inside and learning how it can support communities during disasters.

The OMATSURI festival also featured traditional performances, international food and craft stalls, and opportunities for people from different communities to connect.

Under the theme “Food support whenever, wherever,” FOOBOUR uses kitchen trucks to provide support to children in single-parent households during normal times and deliver warm meals to communities affected by disasters in times of emergency.

Thank you to everyone who visited FOOBOUR and took the time to learn more about PBV’s activities.
