International Residents Join Disaster Preparedness Workshops in Tokyo

This March, Peace Boat Disaster Relief successfully held additional Disaster Preparedness Day workshops on March 7th, 14th and 21st in Tokyo, welcoming participants from many different countries, including Germany, Italy, Vietnam, Ukraine, the United States, and more. The workshops brought together international residents living in Japan who wanted to learn how to better prepare for disasters and protect themselves and their communities.

During the program, participants took part in hands-on disaster simulation activities such as earthquake simulation, smoke evacuation training, and basic firefighting practice. For many participants, this was their first time experiencing how strong an earthquake can feel or how difficult it can be to move safely through a smoke-filled space. These practical experiences helped participants better understand the importance of preparation and staying calm during emergencies.

In addition to the practical training, participants joined a discussion session where they asked many questions about disaster preparedness in Japan, including emergency supplies, evacuation planning, and how to respond during earthquakes and floods. The session became an open and interactive conversation where participants shared their concerns and learned from each other’s experiences.

We were very happy to welcome participants from diverse international communities and to have the opportunity to share practical knowledge and preparedness tips. We hope that the experience helped participants feel more confident and better prepared for disasters in Japan.

As a follow-up to these workshops, PBV will host an online webinar on March 25 focusing on how communities can prepare for disasters and support each other during emergencies. If you are interested in disaster preparedness, community activities, or volunteering, we warmly invite you to join us and continue learning together.
