Over the past week, our teams have been working on multiple fronts to support the affected communities while coordinating closely with local governments, social welfare councils, NGOs, and volunteer groups.

PBV has carried out detailed damage assessments in the hardest-hit areas of Kirishima City and Aira City, listening to residents and local officials to better understand the needs on the ground. Based on these assessments, our teams delivered emergency supplies, including bottled water and air circulators, to evacuation centers and affected households facing prolonged water outages and the risk of heat-related illnesses.

To provide comfort and nourishment, PBV’s Foobour food truck was dispatched from Saga and began serving hot meals in Aira City. Over several days, our staff and volunteers prepared and distributed warm dishes such as yakisoba and bento boxes, in cooperation with local community associations. For residents exhausted by flooding and disruption to daily life, a freshly cooked meal brought both physical relief and emotional encouragement.

At the same time, PBV launched full-scale house-preservation activities in Aira City on August 16. Many homes there were inundated with up to 60 centimeters of water, damaging household items and living spaces. Our teams are now working side by side with local partners to drain water from beneath floors and remove mud, helping reduce the burden and anxiety of affected residents.

PBV’s emergency relief in Kagoshima has only been possible thanks to the generosity of supporters near and far. We sincerely appreciate your continued contributions, which allow us to deliver essential supplies, meals, and recovery assistance to those most in need.

Your donations make a difference. Please consider supporting PBV’s relief efforts today and help us stand with the communities of Kagoshima as they begin the long road to recovery.

Ten days have passed since Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) launched emergency operations in response to the record-breaking heavy rains that struck Kagoshima Prefecture and other parts of Kyushu earlier this month.
