The robotic walking assist devices, developed in Japan and delivered through the collaboration between Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) and UNBROKEN, are already making a real difference in the lives of war-affected patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past weeks, <strong>six patients<\/strong> began rehabilitation using RE-Gait. <strong>Four<\/strong> of them have already completed their course. Most are recovering from <strong>traumatic brain injuries<\/strong>, often accompanied by <strong>partial paralysis<\/strong> that makes walking difficult or impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the first patients, <strong>Vitalii<\/strong>, suffered a brain injury during the war that left him with <strong>left-sided hemiparesis<\/strong>. Before treatment, he could only move with a cane. After completing his RE-Gait sessions, Vitalii is now walking independently \u2014 without assistance. His gait has become more stable and confident.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/photo_2025-04-24-15.11.04.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/photo_2025-04-24-15.11.04-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9468\" style=\"width:229px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/photo_2025-04-24-15.11.04-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/photo_2025-04-24-15.11.04-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/photo_2025-04-24-15.11.04.jpeg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The reactions from the first group of patients speak volumes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>\u201cThe device lifts my foot while walking \u2014 it\u2019s easier and more comfortable.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cWalking gets easier every time.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cIt\u2019s nice to know it\u2019s from Japan.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cEasy to put on, fun to walk with.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>\u201cI like how it buzzes.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Behind these short phrases lies something bigger: the joy of movement, the return of independence, and the feeling of being seen and supported \u2014 even from across borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therapists working with RE-Gait describe it as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Easy to operate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simple to fit into existing rehab programs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safe, with very few medical limitations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enjoyable for patients of different ages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is no accident. The RE-Gait devices delivered to Ukraine were specially <strong>customized for local use<\/strong>, with larger shoes and Ukrainian-language tablets. Before delivery, Dr. Liubov Koloshynska traveled to Hiroshima and Fukuyama for direct training with the developers and medical professionals using the device in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now back in Lviv, she and her team are not only using the technology \u2014 they\u2019re transforming lives with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a country where thousands are adapting to a new reality of life with disability, the ability to walk again means more than physical mobility. It brings back confidence, hope, and the feeling of being in control. This is only the beginning of what RE-Gait can offer Ukraine\u2019s recovery.
