On April 3, 2023, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck Hualien County in eastern Taiwan, causing significant structural damage to buildings and infrastructure. In response, PBV immediately deployed two staff members to assess the situation and collaborate with our local partner, the Tzu Chi Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The earthquake’s impact was substantial, resulting in building collapses, fire outbreaks, and extensive damage to residential properties. Many households experienced cracked walls and broken water pipes, leaving residents deeply concerned about their future living conditions. Through our partnership with the Tzu Chi Foundation, PBV supported local housing rehabilitation efforts to address these urgent needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tzu Chi Foundation conducted comprehensive safety inspections of affected households across Hualien County, employing professional expertise to evaluate structural integrity. While some properties suffered severe damage – including cracks in living room walls, bathrooms, exterior walls, and ceiling surfaces, as well as damaged pillars posing potential leakage risks – not all cases qualified for government assistance. Focusing on these vulnerable households, the Foundation provided essential repairs, including mortar restoration and tile replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PBV specifically supported the Foundation’s housing rehabilitation activities in the Xiulin District, successfully concluding our mission in December 2023. As fellow members of the Asia-Pacific region facing similar natural disaster risks, PBV remains committed to fostering solidarity and collaboration with our partners in Taiwan to build resilience against future disasters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
