Heavy rains triggered flooding, landslides, and mudslides simultaneously, and claimed lives of over 200 people in the region.\u00a0\u00a0In response to the worst storm-related disaster in the Heisei era, Peace Boat Disaster Relief Volunteer Center (PBV) has launched relief activities in the affected area.<\/p>\n<p>Prolonged evacuation at the emergency shelters and cleaning of damaged houses that had been flooded to the second floor have been an enormous physical and emotional burden to the local residents. PBV has been supporting the management of emergency shelters and local disaster volunteer centers, cleaning damaged houses and distributing hot meals, focusing\u00a0on Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, one of the worst damaged areas.<\/p>\n<p>People in the damaged area are\u00a0facing\u00a0huge challenges in recovery, and are in a great need of help to rebuild their lives and communities. PBV is now making an open call for international volunteers who can contribute to the relief activities in Kurashiki. We seek your kind attention and cooperation. Thank you very much!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Overview<strong> &lt;Application is now closed- Thank you!&gt;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Flooding in Western Japan: Call for International Volunteers\u00a0(Meet \/ Finish at Shin-Kurashiki)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Schedule<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>September 4, 2018 (Tuesday) \u2013 September 6, 2018 (Thursday)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Place of activities\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Kurashiki-shi, Okayama prefecture (Mabi area) and other regions damaged by the flooding.\u00a0*Place of activity is subject to change due to local situation.
