On 30th\u00a0<\/sup>June, Peace Boat hosted the “1st\u00a0<\/sup>Assembly of The Community Practitioners\u2019 Platform for Resilience”<\/strong> in Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala.<\/p>\n

In partnership with Fundaci\u00f3n Guatemala and Huairou Commision, Peace Boat welcomed\u00a0over\u00a030 representatives from Guatemala and El Salvador, all working in Disaster Risk Reduction and resilience building, onto Peace Boat’s passenger ship, the Ocean Dream<\/em>.<\/p>\n

These communities are plagued by similar disasters, but rarely do the community members themselves have the time and opportunity to gather and interact in this way.<\/p>\n

The one-day event brought together\u00a0leading figures from across the region, who were able to share experiences, lessons learnt and best practices with one another.<\/p>\n

Representatives from \u00a0the Municipality of Santa Tecla, El Salvador and the Municipal Fire Department were also in attendance.<\/p>\n

The participants were also able to meet several\u00a0hibakusha <\/em>(atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki) who are onboard the ship as part of the “8th\u00a0Global<\/span> Voyage for a Nuclear-Free World: Peace Boat Hibakusha Project<\/a>“. This was an especially powerful exchange as this year marks the 70th Anniversary of the bombings.<\/p>\n

After a productive\u00a0day of workshops, networking and presentations, the participants expressed strong determination to continue\u00a0working together and synchronize their individual efforts to strengthen their collective impact.<\/p>\n

Together with our partners, we hope to build on this momentum and continue to strengthen regional cooperation on Disaster Risk Reduction in Central America.<\/p>\n
