{"id":4453,"date":"2014-06-30T07:01:01","date_gmt":"2014-06-29T22:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/en\/?p=4453"},"modified":"2020-07-16T10:38:39","modified_gmt":"2020-07-16T01:38:39","slug":"peace-boat-unisdr-partnership-to-promote-making-cities-resilient-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/en\/news\/peace-boat-unisdr-partnership-to-promote-making-cities-resilient-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"Peace Boat &#038; UNISDR&#8217;s Partnership to Promote &#8220;Making Cities Resilient&#8221; Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peace Boat is proud to announce its new partnership with the <strong>UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unisdr.org\/archive\/37634\">UNISDR)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Peace Boat has recently become an\u00a0<strong>official Campaign Partner of the UNISDR&#8217;s \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unisdr.org\/campaign\/resilientcities\/\">Making Cities Resilient<\/a>\u201d campaign<\/strong>, an initiative aiming to make cities around the world more disaster resilient.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PEACE-BOAT-PASSENGER-VESSEL.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4461\" src=\"http:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PEACE-BOAT-PASSENGER-VESSEL.jpg\" alt=\"PEACE BOAT PASSENGER VESSEL\" width=\"620\" height=\"455\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PEACE-BOAT-PASSENGER-VESSEL.jpg 817w, https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PEACE-BOAT-PASSENGER-VESSEL-300x220.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Peace Boat\u2019s passenger vessel will serve as:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A <strong>Messenger<\/strong>, with its physical presence able to raise awareness in the ports we visit,<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A <strong>Venue<\/strong> for delivering education and training programmes,<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A <strong>Vehicle<\/strong>, able to bring people and expertise to different regions of the world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Over 1900 cities have joined the campaign since its launch in 2010, with each local government pledging to make their cities safer and more disaster prepared.<\/p>\n<p>Signatories commit to at least one of the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unisdr.org\/campaign\/resilientcities\/assets\/documents\/ten-essentials.pdf\">Ten Essentials<\/a>\u201d, a set of key areas identified by Disaster Risk Reduction experts that are crucial to improving urban resilience.<\/p>\n<p>By focusing their resources and efforts in these key areas, local governments can take concrete steps towards building resilient communities and ultimately minimizing human, social and environmental impacts of natural disasters.<\/p>\n<p>Peace Boat will bring the \u201cMaking Cities Resilient\u201d Campaign to the high seas, raising awareness of the campaign at <strong>60 ports-of-call<\/strong> visited during our global voyages in 2014\/2015.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these ports-of-call include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Belem, Brazil<\/li>\n<li>Dakar, Senegal<\/li>\n<li>Corinto, Nicaragua<\/li>\n<li>Aqaba, Jordan<\/li>\n<li>Istanbul, Turkey<\/li>\n<li>Port Said, Egypt<\/li>\n<li>Colombo, Sri Lanka<\/li>\n<li>Sihanoukville, Cambodia<\/li>\n<li>Busan, South Korea<\/li>\n<li>Salalah, Oman<\/li>\n<li>Port Louis, Mauritius<\/li>\n<li>Walvis Bay, Namibia<\/li>\n<li>Papeete, Tahiti<\/li>\n<li>Toamasina, Madagascar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unisdr.org\/archive\/37634\">here<\/a>\u00a0for the UNISDR&#8217;s article on the new partnership with Peace Boat.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Launch of Peace Boat&#8217;s &#8220;Making Cities Resilient&#8221; Promotional Campaign<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Peace Boat will be in Central and South America in August 2014\u00a0to launch our &#8220;Making Cities Resilient&#8221; promotional campaign<span class=\"text_exposed_show\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Young country representatives from <strong>Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua<\/strong> and <strong>Panama<\/strong> will be joining us onboard to discuss disaster resilience, share best practices and determine how to minimize the impacts of disasters on communities in the region.
