They started by receiving an explanation about the damage conditions whilst examining a map of Ishinomaki city.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1797\" title=\"DSC04580-s\" src=\"http:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC04580-s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC04580-s.jpg 620w, https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC04580-s-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Daimaru from the <a title=\"IDRAC\" href=\"http:\/\/gambappe.ecom-plat.jp\/index.php?gid=10099\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ishinomaki Disaster Recovery Assistance Council Inc. (IDRAC)<\/a> came to greet the students.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1798\" title=\"DSC04582-s\" src=\"http:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC04582-s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC04582-s.jpg 620w, https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC04582-s-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here are the students listening to the explanation about current conditions by Peace Boat staff member Kobayashi Shingo.<\/p>\n<p>After the explanation, the students got straight onto a bus to head towards the Kobuchihama region on the Oshika Peninsula where they would be working. They could only be in the area for a limited time so they wanted to help as much as they could.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1799\" title=\"DSC04603-s\" src=\"http:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC04603-s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC04603-s.jpg 620w, https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/DSC04603-s-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The students are nervous as they listen to an explanation on-site as it is their first time to participate in something like this.<\/p>\n<p>The area is a little over an hour outside of Ishinomaki city. After arriving in Kobuchihama, the students prepared by changing into work clothes and listening to an explanation and words of caution about the work by one of the people in charge of the area.<\/p>\n<p>The students started off by doing \u201cRadio exercises\u201d (warm-up exercises that are done to music on the radio) to loosen up their muscles before working so that they wouldn&#8217;t injure themselves. The students are hungry after working hard. During this time I talked to some of the students about how they felt after the morning&#8217;s work and about their impressions after coming to the disaster-affected area for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the comments were as follows:<br \/>\n\u201cI was speechless when I saw the damage.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI had been thinking about coming here and volunteering for a long time so I am glad I was able to come.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI thought that after so much damage, that all of the debris would have to be thrown away. I was surprised when I learned that some of the stuff collected such as fishing equipment might be able to be used again.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI experienced so many things today. One of the students said, \u201cI am sure that I will happily remember this day one day when I eat fish that are caught in Miyagi.
