{"id":10092,"date":"2026-03-26T15:14:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T06:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/en\/?p=10092"},"modified":"2026-04-06T16:07:55","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T07:07:55","slug":"emergency_relief_indonesia2026mar01","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/en\/news\/emergency_relief_indonesia2026mar01\/","title":{"rendered":"Emergency Relief Reaches Flood-Affected Communities in North Sumatra"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>From January 27 to February 23, 2026, Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV), in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/asarhumanity.org\/id\" title=\"\">ASAR Humanity<\/a>, provided emergency assistance to communities affected by floods in Sipirok and Batangtoru, North Sumatra, Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The response reached a total of 5,115 families, or approximately 25,725 people, many of whom were facing displacement, damaged homes, and limited access to food and basic necessities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Sipirok, a public kitchen was operated from January 27 to February 9. Over ten days of activity, volunteers prepared approximately 1,000 hot meals per day, ensuring that around 1,400 individuals had access to freshly cooked food while their homes remained unusable. The meals were distributed regularly, helping families maintain access to food during a period when many were unable to cook for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Batangtoru, a second public kitchen operated from February 3 to February 12, providing a total of 10,000 hot meals to approximately 2,500 families (around 10,000 individuals). On February 6, 248 food packages were distributed, supporting approximately 992 individuals. On February 9, an additional 500 packages were delivered, reaching around 2,000 individuals. Further distributions took place on February 18, 22, and 23, with 200 packages distributed on February 18 and 160 packages distributed across February 22 and 23, supporting hundreds more individuals for up to one month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to food support, 400 hygiene kits were distributed on February 7 and 10. These kits included clothing, bedding, prayer garments, and mosquito nets, providing basic household items for approximately 600 individuals, with priority given to families with children and elderly members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through these combined efforts, PBV and ASAR Humanity were able to respond to immediate needs while supporting communities in the early stages of recovery.
