{"id":5061,"date":"2015-02-24T10:28:24","date_gmt":"2015-02-24T01:28:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/en\/?page_id=5061"},"modified":"2025-02-12T16:35:36","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T07:35:36","slug":"resilient","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/en\/projects\/resilient\/","title":{"rendered":"Making Cities Resilient Campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"\nIn early 2014, Peace Boat became one of UNISDR&#8217;s campaign partners for the &#8220;Making Cities Resilient&#8221; campaign.\n(See the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unisdr.org\/archive\/37634\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UNISDR article<\/a> on partnership with Peace Boat for further details)\n\nPeace Boat, as a partner for the UNISDR&#8217;s &#8220;Making Cities Resilient&#8221; campaign since May 2014, has committed to serving the campaign as:\n<ul style=\"margin-left: 30px;\">\n\t<li>a <strong>Messenger<\/strong>, with its physical presence able to raise awareness in the ports we visit<\/li>\n\t<li>a <strong>Venue<\/strong> for delivering education and training programmes, and<\/li>\n\t<li>a <strong>Vehicle<\/strong> to bring people and expertise to different regions of the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/resilient_01.png\" alt=\"Making Cities Resilient\" \/>\n<div class='dt-sc-titled-box '><h6 class='dt-sc-titled-box-title' >Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building for Youth Leaders in Central America<\/h6><div class='dt-sc-titled-box-content'><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/resilient_02.png\" alt=\"Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building for Youth Leaders in Central America\" \/>In August 2014, Peace Boat implemented the \u201cDisaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building for Youth Leaders in Central America&#8221; Programme in partnership with UNISDR, inviting DRR youth leaders from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and El Salvador, and a representative from UNISDR onboard the ship as it traveled through the region. The onboard training programme, along with the press conferences and in-port field visits, were very effective in strengthening regional cooperation on DRR.\n(See the <a href=\"http:\/\/peaceboat.jp\/relief\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Report-C.-America-DRR-and-Resilience-Programm-English.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Programme Report<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/peaceboat.jp\/relief\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Press-Release-UNISDR-PeaceBoat-ENG.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UNISDR press release<\/a> attached for further details).<br class=\"dt-sc-clear\" \/><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class='dt-sc-titled-box '><h6 class='dt-sc-titled-box-title' >Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building for Youth Leaders in Africa<\/h6><div class='dt-sc-titled-box-content'><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/resilient_03.png\" alt=\"Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building for Youth Leaders in Africa\" \/>In December 2014, Peace Boat partnered with UNISDR to carry out the &#8220;Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building for Youth Leaders in Africa&#8221; Programme. Six outstanding young leaders from Madagascar, Mozambique and South Africa, along with two United Nations-related special guests from Kenya, joined Peace Boat\u2019s 86th Global Voyage as the ship sailed from Mozambique to South Africa. Combining workshops, seminars, presentations and a field visit, participants explored some of the most pressing issues in Disaster Risk Reduction, and identified ways in which youth can take a leading role in making communities more resilient.\n(Please see <a href=\"http:\/\/peaceboat.jp\/relief\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Africa-DRR-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Programme Report<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unisdr.org\/archive\/41912\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UNISDR article<\/a> for further details).<br class=\"dt-sc-clear\" \/><\/div><\/div>\n<h3>Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building for Youth Leaders Program Objectives:<\/h3>\n<div  class='column dt-sc-two-third  first'><ul>\n\t<li><strong>Promote the UNISDR\u2019s \u201cMaking Cities Resilient\u201d campaign<\/strong> through engaging the next generation of DRR leaders and implementing in-port programmes (E.g. press conferences, symposiums, round-table discussions).<\/li>\n\t<li><strong>Build capacity of young DRR leaders<\/strong> through providing the place, time and opportunity to share best practices, expand networks and gain tools\/knowledge related to DRR and sustainable development of cities.<\/li>\n\t<li><strong>Strengthen African regional cooperation on DRR<\/strong> through connecting individuals and organisations from different countries with diverse perspectives, experiences and expertise.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<div  class='column dt-sc-one-third  '><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/pbv.or.jp\/wp_en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/resilient_04.png\" alt=\"Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Building for Youth Leaders Program Objectives\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"dt-sc-clear\"><\/div><div class='dt-sc-hr-invisible  '><\/div>\n<div class='hr-title'><h2>About the &#8220;Making Cities Resilient&#8221; Global Campaign<\/h2><div class='title-sep'><span><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<div  class='column dt-sc-two-third  first'>More than 2000 cities around the world have joined the UNISDR-led <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unisdr.org\/campaign\/resilientcities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cMaking Cities Resilient\u201d<\/a> campaign and are working to make their communities more resilient to disasters.
