It’s Giving Tuesday!

This year, once again, many parts of Japan have experienced disasters, especially flooding and storms, resulting in large-scale destruction. This year, the Peace Boat Disaster Relief (PBV) has carried out emergency relief projects across Japan, including Saga Prefecture (heavy rains in July), Chiba Prefecture (Typhoons 15 and 19) and Fukushima Prefecture (Typhoon 19 and heavy rains caused by Typhoon 21), and we are also engaged in a relief project in Mozambique to support those affected by Cyclone Idai.

If you are considering making a contribution to a charity this holiday season, supporting those affected by such disasters through the PBV may be a great option to leverage your contribution. Your donation will be utilized to provide much-needed support in disaster-affected areas, such as relief items, hot meals, house-cleaning tools and equipment, volunteer capacity building, transportation, and more.

The PBV offers a wide range of donation schemes, including the online donation sites, Benevity and GlobalGiving. While Benevity offers a corporate donation platform to member companies, GlobalGiving accepts donations directly from individuals around the world. Please visit the following link for more details:

There are also ways to support PBV’s activities by sending unwanted items to designated agencies. The Otakara-Eid(お宝エイド) program accepts items, such as DVDs, jewelry, unused stamps, etc. All you need to do is pack the items in a box and call for a pick-up. A portion of the buying price of the items evaluated by the agent will be donated to the PBV. Unwanted books (with ISBN number only), CDs and video game software can also be used to raise funds via the Arigato-Bon(ありがと本) program. Also, for this program, all you need to do is pack the items and call for a collection.
