Vanuatu Relief: Cyclone Pam Donations Page
PBV is dispatching one member of staff to Vanuatu in order to carry out a rapid needs assessment of affected communities. Cyclone Pam struck Vanuatu and surrounding islands late on March 13th and has caused major damage across the country. On Efate Island (where the capital Port Vila is located), an estimated 90% of buildings have sustained damage or have been destroyed. Communications have also been significantly disrupted due to damage to infrastructure. Reports suggest that damage incurred by the disaster is severe and will become more apparent as communications with some of the more remote islands is re-established.
PBV will work in partnership with Japan Platform, the United Nations, government agencies, and local and international NGOs to provide effective assistance where it is most needed. More updates to follow via our Facebook page and website.
